Oct 7: The Kelantan state government is demanding Tenaga Nasional Berhad to settle its RM93 million debt which it owed since 1990 for the Pergau-Jeli hydro-electric dam.
State exco for economic planning, finance and welfare, Husam Musa said the sum for the water catchment areas in the dam had yet to be paid to date.“This is in line with the original agreement signed by Kelantan state government with TNB. The state government has not received any payment and this involves an area of 37,000 hectares," said Husam, who added that an invoice from the state government had been prepared for TNB.
On why the matter was pursued now, the PAS vice president said this was based on a mini committee under him tasked with increasing state government’s revenue.
Husam said TNB had always settled payment for the usage of lands and waters to generate hydro electricity in the Pergau dam, and the money was channelled to a fund called Tok Kenali.
“We hope that TNB will be able to clear the back debt as soon as possible for the interest of the people in the state,” he urged. |
