In a shocking development, Ambiga Sreenevasan, the well-respected chairman of the Bersih 2.0 movement for free and fair elections, accused Prime Minister Najib Razak of endorsing threats against her safety.
This took place during the run-up to the Bersih's July 9 rally in Kuala Lumpur last year, Ambiga told the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) on Wednesday.
“There were calls to strip me of my citizenship, attacks by state-controlled media and I believe that all this was condoned by the government,” said Ambiga.

Even if Umno-BN wins 100% of the votes, it would still be an illegitimate government

UMNO has long lost its legitimacy to form the federal government. Even if it can win 100 per cent of the vote in the 13th general election that must be called by April 2013, this fact will not change. In fact, the more seats UMNO wins, the more illegitimate it would be because it is simply inconceivable that UMNO can win 100 per cent votes, without having cheated or rigged the polls results.
Some facts on the 12th General Election held in 2008 should be noted and analysed. The Barisan Nasional within Peninsular Malaysia failed to obtain a majority of popular votes cast. It only obtained 49% of the popular votes in Peninsular Malaysia whereas the Opposition had the majority of popular votes – 51%. UMNO won 35% of popular votes against 34.8% won by PAS and PKR. The figures by themselves tell us that the Malays do not depend on UMNO anymore.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, taking a leaf from Mahathir Mohamad, has launched the Global Movement of the Moderates (GMM) in Putrajaya on Tuesday this week.
But of what good can it do for Malaysia or the world is a source of national and international puzzlement. What is certain though, the event will cost Malaysian taxpayers a pretty penny indeed - all for the purpose of boosting Najib's ego and padding his resume or legacy, if you will.
The implication here is that Islamic fundamentalists everywhere are engaged in a Global War of Terrorism against the west and its allies. The so-called moderates, like Najib, want to distance themselves from this militant form of Islam propagated by a tiny minority. In the process, they want to buy “respectability’ and support from the international community for their own self-serving political survival.

"Dangerous" for BN ministers to declare assets: Nazri ridiculed for "worst excuse" ever

As expected, recent calls for top political leaders to declare their assets have struck fear into the hearts of BN Cabinet ministers, who are perceived to be among the richest but most corrupt people in the country.
Nazr Aziz, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, was obviously tasked to knock down the suggestions from Transparency International, the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission as well as the examples set by the Pakatan Rakyat state governments in Selangor and Penang.
For defending the indefensible, Nazri was ridiculed for insisting that revealing the assets of ministers and their immediate family to the public "may endanger them".

Scrambling for time, Shahrizat sues Rafizi, Zuraidah over NFC in alleged bid to gag them

In a move that has been widely anticipated, Umno minister Shahrizat Jalil finally filed a RM100 million defamation suit against PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Zuraidah Kamaruddin for claiming she had misused a federal loan meant for the National Feedlot Centre.
"For us, it is fine because we have information backed up by statements and documents provided by whistle-blowers. For her, she might trying to buy some time out of her troubles," Rafizi, the PKR's strategy director, told Malaysia Chronicle.

We Not Naughty: Too much baggage, not enough fun

Aiyoh-yooh, ministers now fear marauding Malaysians

Really, is the Minister in the Prime Minister’s department, Nazri Aziz serious? If what he was reported to have said is true, then it is not a joke. It is gross insult to all law abiding citizens of this country.
The de-facto Law Minister is reported to have said that the public disclosure of ministers’ assets is “dangerous”. Nazri Aziz claimed that releasing the details of the ministers’ assets to the public may endanger the individuals.
What that tantamount to, in other words, is that Malaysians are a marauding lot. It also means that Malaysians are a savage lot. Now if that is not an insult to peace-keeping Malaysians, then pray tell what else it could be?

The "bitchy" manner in which he attacked Bersih chairman Ambiga Sreenevasa, who a day ago revealed that it was Prime Minister Najib Razak who endorsed the threats against her safety, also indicated he was out to get revenge for his boss.

Gaji pegawai lebih tinggi timbul perasaan tidak puas hati kakitangan awam

KUALA LUMPUR – Satu cadangan kenaikan gaji yang lebih tinggi dicadangkan untuk pegawai tertinggi kerajaan di bawah Skim Persaraan Baru Kakitangan Awam (SBPA) telah menimbulkan perasaan tidak puas hati 1.4 juta kakitangan awam-kunci utama untuk kemenangan Barisan Nasional (BN).
Di bawah skim baru berkenaan, pegawai atasan kerajaan akan dibayar sebanyak RM80,000 sebulan berbanding kakitangan awam hanya menerima kenaikan RM1.70 sebulan dan telah membangkitkan kemarahan beberapa kesatuan sekerja dan juga pembangkang.

Lagi suara desak Gerakan keluar BN

KOTA BHARU- Barisan Nasional (BN) tidak mampu lagi mempertahankan hegemoninya apabila pakatan pelbagai parti hampir 55 tahun dalam gabungan itu kini semakin rapuh.
Retak menunggu belah semakin jelas sekarang, lebih-lebih lagi Gerakan yang bergabung dalam BN selepas menawan Pulau Pinang pada pilihan raya umum 1969, mulai berani mempersoalkan keikhlasan Umno.
Gerakan diasaskan Prof Datuk Dr Syed Hussein Alatas bersama Tan Sri Dr Tan Chee Khoon, Dr J.B.A Peter, Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, Prof Wang Gangwu dan V. Veerapan pada 1968.
Bagaimanapun hasil pujukan Tun Razak Hussin parti itu menyertai BN pada 1972 dengan alasan mengelakkan peristiwa 13 Mei 1969 berulang kembali.

Qazaf: Peguam Anwar kemuka hujah 30 Jan

KUALA LUMPUR- Rayuan kes isu qazaf akan dihujah oleh barisan peguam yang mewakili Ketua Pembangkang, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim di Mahkamah Rayuan Syariah pada 30 Januari ini, jam 9 pagi.
Penghujahan itu diteruskan apabila notis rayuan yang dikemukakan oleh peguam Anwar dibantah oleh peguam yang mewakili Menteri di Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir dan dua lagi, Ketua Pendakwa Syarie, Shamsuddin Hussain dan Pengarah Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan, Datuk Che Mat Che Ali yang mohon agar Mahkamah Rayuan Syariah menolak permohonan tersebut.
Salah seorang peguam yang mewakili Anwar, Dorina Abdullah yang ditemui di Pejabat Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP) menjelaskan pihaknya akan membahas terhadap bantahan rayuan yang dikemukakan berhubung kes qazaf yang sebelum ini tertangguh.

Pengecut di Putrajaya: Mengapa Najib takut berhadapan dengan Anwar?

Sabtu lalu, Najib telah untuk kali ke-tiga dicabar oleh Anwar untuk berdebat. Tiada jawapan daripada Najib. Najib nampaknya lebih berminat untuk menyendiri disebalik bayangannya dan melemparkan batu. Ada nama untuk orang begitu: pengecut.
Najib yang dikelilingi penyokong dan pempropaganda daripada media arus perdana seperti The Star, NST dan Utusan telah memberanikan diri bersuara mengenai polisi yang dicadangkan Pakatan. Beliau dengan tiada rasa bersalah, mengenepikan rasa hormat diri dan maruah dan bertindak seperti budak sekolah nakal serta melaungkan kata-kata hinakepada Anwar dari tempat yang selamat. Tetapi Najib enggan bersemuka dengan Anwar dalam suatu debat terbuka kerana beliau tidak ada kekuatan untuk melakukan yang demikian.
