Kedah writes off education debts for the poor

Dec 28: Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak (pic) has announced that state education debts involving those who are classified under the poverty group will be written off.

Speaking at an event for presenting state contributions to Keat Hwa and Sin Min Chinese schools, Azizan said the state government decided to erase education loans of those who failed to repay due to death, chronic disease, mental illness and other reasons which led them to be unable to repay.

“This means we are not asking repayment of debt from the students’ guarantors. This is a basic humanitarian act to those who are unable to pay,” said Azizan.
