DAP renews pledge to fight alongside PAS against BN

Harakahdaily
Oct 3: Despite their differences on the implementation of the Islamic deterrent punishments for serious crimes, or hudud, DAP said it had more in common with PAS when it comes to fighting to free the people from injustices of Barisan Nasional.

Saying the party could not accept the hudud enactment of Kelantan because it violated the Federal constitution, DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng (pic) stressed their differences would not stop the party from cooperating with PAS.
Lim also rejected any suggestion that his party would cooperate with UMNO although the latter was opposed to the implementation of hudud in the country.

“DAP leaders clearly do not agree with hudud. UMNO also does not agree with hudud.

"But, it does not mean DAP and UMNO would cooperate. We will continue to cooperate with PAS because we have a lot in common. We are together in the fight against corruption, ignorance and BN,” Lim told the 20,000 strong crowd who thronged PAS's 60th celebration do in Kepala Batas, Penang.

Pakatan Rakyat recently said it acknowledge Kelantan’s Syariah Criminal Enactment 1993 and a similar enactment by the PAS-led Terengganu government in 2003, both before Pakatan Rakyat's birth as a coalition following gains by PKR, DAP and PAS in the 2008 general election.

The PR council also said it respected DAP’s disagreement over the implementation of the laws.

“We are not fighting against Islam but we are fighting against UMNO, MCA, MIC and BN,” stressed Lim in his speech.

Among other top PR leaders who spoke were PAS Murshidul Am Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, president Tuan Guru Abdul Hadi Awang, his deputy Mohamad Sabu and PKR de-facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

In his speech, Anwar said PR would unveil its 2012 budget early this week, before prime minister Najib Razak's Budget 2012 speech in Parliament.

“The committee comprising economic experts from PAS, DAP and PKR has put together our own Budget... in great detail,” Anwar said, and added that the public could compare economic policies of PR and BN.
