Husam on secret of PAS's survival in Kelantan

Harakahdaily
Nov 30: PAS vice president Husam Musa (pic) said although money and entertainment had always been used as baits by UMNO to entice the PAS state assemblymen in Kelantan, such efforts failed to bring down the party's stronghold there.

Husam said UMNO had always used money to entice the public, and cited the recent education aid in the form of cash handout.

He said in order to get the RM100 aid, parents had been forced to appear at special events to promote UMNO.“Before it is given, they are asked to listen to UMNO’s political talk,” said the Kelantan Exco member.

Husam said besides money, entertainment shows were also in UMNO's ‘menu’ to attract crowds.

He pointed out that even in the 1960s, there had been attempts to 'buy over' PAS state representatives with money.

He was referring to an incident in 1968  which saw five PAS state assemblymen being ‘kidnapped’ and ‘caged’ in Kuala Lumpur, following UMNO's failure to capture the state in 1959.

The individuals were said to have been threatened and promised various offers to jump ship in order to bring down the PAS state government in Kelantan. Later, they were to reveal their ordeal during the state assembly.

Husam said similar tactics to bring down the PAS-led state government "is ongoing", adding that many PAS assemblymen had been approached with offers.

"But they are not affected, and that is why the PAS government survives until today,” he added.
