From 2009 to 2011, a 10-year-old boy was beaten, burnt and cut for stealing food by the family he stayed with.
The family of five, including the youngest child, 14, were arrested. Yesterday, the offending teen pleaded guilty to helping her mother to hold the boy while her mother poured cooking oil on him.
The Straits Times reported that two other charges of abetting her mother to burn the boy's back and neck with a hot ladle, and cutting his fingers with a pair of scissors were also taken into consideration when District Judge Edgar Foo called for a probation report for the teen. The next hearing will be on Jan 10, 2012.
She is now in remand at the Singapore Girls' Home. Her two elder sisters, 20 and 24, are also in remand.
Their 46-year-old mother is in prison, while the 45-year-old father is out on bail for allegedly splashing the boy with hot water.
The boy's mother is a drug addict and often in jail, but his father's identity is not known. He also does not have a birth certificate and does not attend school.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Ashraf Hassan said the boy was the son of a niece of the teen's mother.
According to previous reports, the boy's face and body have been disfigured as a result of the attacks which took place in three different locations, including Hougang.
