PAS raps EC over indelible ink fatwa

Harakahdaily
Oct 19: The Election Commission has been accused of lying for claiming that the use of indelible ink on voters was delayed because the National Fatwa Council had yet to determine its permissibility in the Muslim prayer.

Prior to this, EC secretary Noordin Che Ngah said the implementation of indelible ink now depended upon an approval from the Council.

However, the Council already gave its green light in 2007, saying the ink had no prohibited ingredients preventing ablution before prayer.
PAS Youth information chief Riduan Mohd Nor said the ruling was stated on page 144 of a book published by JAKIM last year on a dialogue session by the Council.

“The fatwa has made it clear that there is nothing wrong in the use of indelible ink for 13th general election,” said Riduan, urging EC not to delay its implementation and thereby further "damaging EC's already tarnished image".

"At least, people will have some hope that EC is still putting a little effort to ensure the country’s election is free, clean and fair,” he stressed.
