How much are Exco members in Pakatan Rakyat-led Penang state government worth?
The information is now available at our fingertips, as assets belonging to its chief minister and Exco members are now available on the state's online portal at www.penang.gov.my.
“Penang State EXCO members holding positions of public trust believe that the rakyat has a right to demand accountability from public officials,” Lim Guan Eng said announcing the availability of the declaration of assets made by each Exco member.
Among others, we now know that Lim owns two shoplots in Melaka, worth RM435,000 and RM530,000. Lim is still servicing a loan of RM650,000 to pay for the properties, one of which he co-owns.
His investment in Amanah Mutual Bhd showed a slight increase from 112,843 to 124,845 units between March 2008 and the end of last year, while his Public Mutual Fund investment also rose from 10,000 to 25,989 units. A fixed deposit account belonging to him stood at RM298,785.
Richest and poorest
The ‘richest’ Exco member in Lim’s administration is Sungai Puyu assemblyman Phee Boon Poh.
Batu Maung assemblyman Abdul Malik Kasim, who does not own any property or shares, would probably come out last.
Lim hoped the media could publish the state Exco members’ assets declarations in full.
He reminded the media not to commit financial mistakes when reporting, such as ignoring loans taken to finance an asset.
“The Penang state exco members wish to stress that they have no other sources of income except from their public allowances as public officials and ADUNs," he said, adding that details of their salaries can be obtained from official documents.
