Kelantan MB says concurrent elections to stay

Nov 23: Kelantan Menteri Besar Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat said it was best for the state to have elections concurrently with parliamentary election when it is called.

“It is not worthwhile to hold it separately. If we hold it separately, all devils will be focusing on one place and when it is too much, it becomes out of control,” quipped the most senior MB of Pakatan Rakyat-held states.

Nik Aziz was asked to comment on the Selangor and Penang state governments' decision not to call for state election in tandem with general elections at the parliamentary level.Earlier, Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim announced that Selangor would not hold any state election before June 2012, followed by a statement by Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng that state polls would only be decided once parliament was dissolved.

However, the politically-savvy PAS Murshidul Am who has served as MB for over two decades offered a different take from his PR colleagues.

“After 20 years of administrating Kelantan, I think it is best to have parliamentary and state elections together,” he added.
