KUALA LUMPUR: The family members of a missing 75-year-old mother and her 45-year-old son are still riddled with questions about their whereabouts and are offering a RM20,000 reward to try to get some answers.
On Sept 14, it was reported that Lam Yik Sau, and her son Teoh Kean Beng were last seen at their house in Kampung Rapat, Ipoh on Aug 28.
Teoh’s sister, Lai In, 49, was living with her 18-year-old niece Teoh King Men in Petaling Jaya when the incident happened.
On Aug 30, Lai In called the mother’s neighbour to check on the two and was informed by neighbours that the house had been ransacked.
Apart from her mother’s handbag and brother’s wallet, other valuables – such as a laptop and three smartphones – were still in the house.
“We hope with this reward, someone will come forward and give us a lead on where they are,” said Lai In at a press conference organised by MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Michael Chong yesterday.
She lodged a police report at the Kampung Rapat police station on Aug 31.
Police had arrested a suspect whom they released due to insufficient evidence.
“It is believed the missing duo were kidnapped and I have told the family to be prepared for the worst,” said Chong.
He added that his department would add RM5,000 on top of the RM20,000 reward.
In a separate case, a 45-year-old woman has gone missing after a trip to find business opportunities in Vietnam.
Lee Lih Cheng, 45, failed to come home on Sept 12 after a week in Vietnam.
Her 18-year-old son Lee Siew How sensed something was amiss when his mother did not return after three weeks.
“She called me from Vietnam during her stay there and I tried to call the number again but it was switched off,” said Siew How.
