Minimum wage of RM1,500 in Selangor from next year

Harakahdaily
Sep 15: Starting next year, every state civil servant will enjoy at least RM1,500, as part of the minimum wage policy being implemented by the Selangor government.

Announcing this today, the state government said the minimum wage was part of Pakatan Rakyat's three-year plan (2011-2013) to be launched Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim tomorrow.

Priot to this, PR pledged to implement minimum wage for all workers in the country within the first 100 days should the coalition come to power at the federal level at the next general election.

“Now, we are realising this pledge by first implementing it in Selangor,” said Faekah Husin, Khalid's political secretary.

The three-year plan also includes projects covering state development  and people’s welfare, as well as a new plan allocating RM5 million to develop new villages in Selangor. It would also spend RM4 million for road works in rural areas.

Last year, the state spent some RM4.6 million to help 465 villages carry out social welfare programmes, giving each RM10,000.

To boost public security, RM3 million will be spent on installation of CCTV cameras in crime-prone areas, beginning with Subang Jaya.

Another RM1 million will be located to each state assemblyman to restore drains, roads and bridges.

Fulfilling its last manifesto, the Selangor state government is also said to be accelerating plans to democratise local councils by having local elections, starting with Petaling Jaya.
