PAS smells conspiracy to reap profit in Kg Baru

Harakahdaily
Oct 6: A PAS member of parliament questioned the rushed manner in passing the Kampung Baru Development Bill in parliament, which also mentioned four government-linked-companies involved in the redevelopment of the 111-year-old Malay settlement.

The new bill was passed last night 72-28, two days after Federal Territories and Urban Well-being minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin announced the cancellation of the Kampung Baru Development Bill 2010.
This time, Raja Nong Chik named Lembaga Tabung Haji, Permodalan Nasional Berhad, Putrajaya Holding and Permodalan Hartanah Berhad as the developers.

Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar however wondered if there was a conspiracy to reap quick profit for the GLCs.

“It seems there is conspiracy between the government and GLCs to reap profit behind the establishment of the entity (to develop Kampung Baru). How can there be a list of GLCs to be involved when the bill had just passed,” he said in parliament.

The Kampung Baru Development Bill 2011 was read for the second time last night after the old bill was cancelled following protests from Kampung Baru residents who cried foul over non-consultation.

Mahfuz said Pakatan Rakyat's opposition to the bill was not anti-development.

“We have stressed repeatedly that we are not rejecting development in Malay areas, but we do not want the development to sideline the Malays,” he added
