Sep 22: PAS vice president Salahuddin Ayub (right) has criticised the Land Public Transport Commission's move to re-register all commercial vehicles as inefficient, saying it caused hardship to those affected.
“Firstly, it is causing hardship and unnecessary burden because the operators and employees of public transport who are low earners have to take time off to re-register the vehicle licenses," he said.
SPAD recently announced that it would not extend the date of commercial vehicles' re-registration with the Commission after September 30. Those who failed to do so could be fined up to RM50,000 or three years' jail under the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act (Amendment) 2010.
Its chairman Syed Hamid Albar said the exercise was to standardise the national transportation industry and ensure welfare of the operators.
Salahuddin however said the authorities should already have data of each vehicle, and as such the procedure for re-registration could be carried out more efficiently.
Undermining MCA's Transport minister?
The Kubang Kerian member of parliament also suggested that SPAD seek cooperation from other ministries and agencies if their database was outdated.
WHO'S THE TRANSPORT BOSS? ... Transport minister Kong and SPAD chief Hamid Albar
He also questioned why the Commission was put under minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and not the Transport ministry.
“When it is not under the ministry, would it not suggest that Transport minister Kong Cho Ha is not in control of SPAD’s operation?
"Is this proof there is crisis of confidence among UMNO leaders of MCA leaders in the government?” he asked.
