Sans polls reforms, 'ghosts' to decide next gov't

Dec 14: If recommendations by the parliamentary select committee  for electoral reforms were ignored, the outcome of the next general election would be in the hands of phantom voters, said DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng.

Speaking as a panelist of a forum organised by Malay-daily daily Sinar Harian on the much awaited 13th general election, Lim said other factors would determine the results of the polls once the issue of 'phantom voters' was solved.

“After the ‘ghosts’ are ‘captured’, then Sabah and Sarawak will decide who rules the country,” he said.Lim said Pakatan Rakyat looked forward to citizens in the East Malaysian states to be ready for change and to give the coalition the chance to rule transparently without corruption and cronisym.

“Yes, PR has no experience in administrating a big government," Lim said on PR's ability to rule at the Federal level. "But neither do we have any experience in corrupt practices and cronisym in our states,” said the Penang chief minister.

Fellow panelist, PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar, said the fairness of the polls depended on UMNO-BN, adding that people were waiting to see how the government would follow suit the PSC’s recommendations on electoral reforms.

Also speaking at the forum were KITA president Zaid Ibrahim, deputy Higher Education minister Saifuddin Abdullah and political commentator Abu Hassan Hasbullah.
