KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here has set Oct 4 to hear PAS vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar's suit against the police and government for alleged wrongful arrest and detention during the July 9 illegal rally.
Judge Harminder Singh Dhaliwal fixed the date in chambers after meeting with Senior Federal Counsel Iznan Izhak, who represented the defendants, and Mahfuz's lawyer Muhammad Faiz Fadzil on Monday, Sept 19.
Mahfuz, who is the Member of Parliament for Pokok Sena, Kedah, filed the suit on Aug 8, naming arresting officer Insp Mohd Zaid Madzizat of the Brickfields Police, the Brickfields police chief, the Inspector-General of Police and the government of Malaysia as the first to fourth defendants.
In his statement of claim, Mahfuz claimed that his detention at KL Sentral at 11.50am on July 9 was wrong, invalid, illegal and mala fide.
He claimed that the scene of the incident (KL Sentral) was not stated as a forbidden area in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court order issued on July 6. - Bernama
