Sep 19: PAS Central Committee member and Selangor Exco Dr Hasan Ali (pic) has dismissed rumours that he would join UMNO as lies.
"In my heart, there is only the struggle for Islam (PAS), not UMNO.
"Why should I do that (join UMNO) when UMNO is terminally ill, when its machinery and armada are sinking?" asked Hasan.
He was responding to claims by UMNO-leaning blogs that he would soon leave the Islamic party to join UMNO.
He also strongly denied a claim that he had met UMNO vice president Hishammuddin Hussein to facilitate his entry into UMNO.
Describing the claims as "cheap provocations", Hasan reiterated his support for PAS and Pakatan Rakyat.
"Be assured that I will remain with PAS and continue to serve the Pakatan Rakyat government to fight UMNO-BN to the end," he added.
Phone calls
Hasan described the claims as lies, adding that he would always remain with PAS which upheld the Qur'an and Sunnah, as well as the ulama, as its guidance.
"Since the story has been going around on blogs and Facebook pages, I have received 15 phone calls and 25 short messages on the matter.
"What a waste of time. It is better for me to focus on the administration of the Pakatan Rakyat state government to uplift the state's economy, " said Hasan.
Hasan was met during a press conference on the sideline of PAS Gombak's Hari Raya event during the weekend. Accompanying him were PKR deputy president and Gombak member of parliament Azmin Ali, Hulu Klang state assemblyman Shari Sungib, state Muslimat and other Selangor PR leaders.
