Horses' Mouths - October 18

Best security through corruption?

We want Hishammuddin to reveal the name of the company awarded the contract, who owns the company  and the cost of (producing) each of the new MyKad. There is no point in you having the best security featured identity card but corrupted officers.
M Manogaran, Teluk Intan MP

Business course
These allegations are allegations against our party, the Election Commission (EC) and the National Registration Department (NRD) to distort and obscure the people’s perception.
Hishamuddin Hussein, Home minister, claiming ignorance about an "entrepreneurship course" in Bangi for permanent residents

Bush’s policies
The RM50 billion Mass Rapid Transit, approved permit system and rice monopoly for Bernas are Bush policies in disguise. He is using ‘trickle-down economics’, hoping the rich will spend and benefit the poor.
Liew Chin Tong, Bukit Bendera MP, on Najib Razak’s 2012 Budget

'Let’s debate'

I want to reiterate the need for ... an open debate so that Najib can go beyond making wild statements; it is better to face each other, so Malaysians can judge. He can present his views, I have no problem if he wants a little bit more time, but give us the opportunity to present Pakatan Rakyat’s budget and Buku Jingga.
Anwar Ibrahim, urging prime minister Najib Razak to publicly debate the merits of both the government’s Budget 2012 and Pakatan Rakyat’s (PR) shadow plan

Kuala Lumpur International Financial District (KLIFD)

Why do we need to be in the same physical location? There is no need to be side by side when you can make things happen at the push of a button.
Tony Pua, Petaling Jaya Utara MP, on incentives for companies to relocate to the financial hub claiming the move will not stop it from failing like previous services hubs such as the Bio-Valley, E-Village and Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC)

Alternative CM and MBs

I would say before they do that, they should suggest who is their alternative chief minister. We have to be ready... If there is an alternative CM we are interested in knowing. Not just in Penang, Selangor as well. Who is their alternative MB? Kedah too, Kelantan as well.
Lim Guan Eng, Penang CM, on Najib Razak’s assurance to Gerakan that UMNO will never lay claim to the leadership of Penang should BN win back the state from PR at the next general election
Regressing Malaysia?
It is proof that the government is regressing instead of progressing despite all the talk of GTP (Government Transformation Plan), ETP (Economic Transformation Plan) and now PTP (Political Transformation Plan).
Lim Kit Siang, DAP advisor, on the delay of the Auditor General's report
