Abolish PPPA, Soi Lek urges government

By Yow Hong Chieh

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 – Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek wants restrictive press laws scrapped, to keep up with growing public demands for more openness.

The MCA president said the aspirations of young Malaysians for a more democratic society meant that the government should go beyond the amending the Printing and Publications Act (PPPA) as proposed.
“Ultimately, we should work towards abolishing the Printing and Publications Act and set a time frame for that.
“The government has to be bold and confident enough to take such steps,” he told delegates at the 58th MCA annual general meeting here.
