10,000 'fakes' missing from EC roll: 'How many more?' asks PAS

Harakahdaily
Sep 14: PAS Youth continues to pile pressure on the Election Commission over the electoral rolls, and said that some 10,000 profiles under dubious identity cards had been removed from the EC's website in a period of two months.

Its Mobilisation and Democracy Restoration bureau chief Suhaizan Kaiat (pic) said the most obvious evidence of this came in the form of the statement by EC's controversial deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, who admitted the existence of 'clone' IC numbers in the electoral rolls.

He said the data released by EC from the DPI (Main Voter Registration) database also spoke volumes about the latest find.

“EC has released two types of data which have been exposed by PAS Youth. The first, the issue of two individuals having the same name but slightly different IC numbers, and the issue of old ICs being used to register two different individuals,” he told a press conference held at the PAS headquarters.

Suhaizan said it was now up to National Registration Department as EC would have detected the status of the ICs based on NRD’s database before removing them. As such, he said the next step would be removing the fake voters from DPI.

“How in such short period of time, two months to be specific, the National Registration Department so easily detected the false data on its database?" asked Suhaizan.

He said it was a feat for a government institution to track down such a large number of fake ICs within just two months.

He questioned whether the NRD "already has the list of fake ICs in hand", and whether these had been entered into EC’s electoral roll to manipulate the election.

"Is NRD involved in fake ICs fraud?” he asked.

“If PAS Youth can identify more than 10,000 fake MyKad holders registered as voters without having access to the NRD’s database, how many fake ICs are out there?”
